Each year, the ISBA presents awards to recognize individuals and law firms for their commitment and service to the profession, their communities, and the association. Award recipients are selected through a nomination process, and members are encouraged to nominate persons who meet the criteria for each award.
The deadline to volunteer for the 2021 ISBA High School Mock Trial Invitational is March 1.

The program will be held virtually March 12-14 via Zoom. It provides an opportunity for students to learn what it is like to prepare and present a legal case before the Illinois courts. Participating students gain a better understanding of the justice system and improve their knowledge, skills, and ability to articulate in a reasoned, thoughtful manner.

The Rural Practice Summer Fellows Program connects law students with rural practitioners to give them experience working in rural communities before they leave law school. The program includes a $5,000 fellowship stipend and mentoring.

The health and wellbeing of our members are always paramount concerns. In keeping with this important priority, we have decided to once again hold the ISBA Annual Meeting virtually. The 145th Annual Meeting will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021. The Annual Meeting will include the organizational meeting of the Board of Governors and a meeting of the Assembly. Both meetings will be conducted by Zoom. ISBA section councils and committees will be holding their organizational meetings via Zoom in the months of June and July.

The 2021 first place winner of the Lincoln Award Legal Writing Contest is Deanna Shahnami, Rockville, Maryland, who wrote “Liberties and Lockdowns: Illinois COVID-19 Restrictions and First Amendment Rights.” Her article will appear in the February issue of the Illinois Bar Journal.
The ISBA’s newly created Rural Practice Fellowship Program aims to address the ongoing shortage of attorneys practicing in rural Illinois.

Members of the ISBA will elect a third vice president (outside Cook County) and one seat each for the following Board of Governors seats: Area 1 (Circuit 18), Area 6 (Circuits 7, 8, and 9), and Area 8 (Circuits 3 and 20). There is also one Board of Governors seat in Cook County. There are 26 open seats for Cook County Assembly.
