    ISBA Board of Governors Underrepresented Vacancy Announcement

    The ISBA president elect will appoint a member to one of the underrepresented seats of the Board of Governors at the May 2019 board meeting. The member appointed to this position will serve with full board member privileges for a three-year term beginning the first day of the 2019 Annual Meeting in Geneva, Wisconsin.

    Pursuant to the association bylaws, eligible candidates for the underrepresented seat include members of the association with a status of, but not limited to, age, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, geography, areas and types of practice, and years of practice.

    ISBA Update: Be Wary of Spoofed Emails

    In light of the fact that email spoofers have been targeting bar associations across the country, the ISBA is warning members to be vigilant in checking the email addresses of the people sending them messages.

    Email spoofing is the creation of email messages with a forged sender address. For this reason, emails may appear to be from someone within the ISBA, but will not have their correct email address in the "From" field.

    ISBA Marches in the 2019 West Suburban Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade

    Members of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) and the DuPage County Bar Association (DCBA) represented the profession by marching in the 2019 West Suburban Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16 in Naperville.

    2019 High School Mock Trial Invitational
    The York Community High School mock trial team. 

    The 2019 ISBA High School Mock Trial Invitational took place on March 9-10 at the University of Illinois Springfield. First place went to York Community High School from Elmhurst.

    Second place went to Glenbard East High School from Lombard, and Evanston Township High School received third place.

    The 2019 Annual Meeting will be held at the Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, from June 13–15, and you can now make your hotel reservations. To make reservations at the Grand Geneva, please call 855.833.5345 and reference reservation code #76s3q8 or indicate you are attending the Illinois State Bar Association's Annual Meeting. The deadline for making reservations for lodging is on or before May 13. Reservations received after this date will be subject to availability. The deposit will be forfeited for all no-shows, early departures, and cancellations less than seven days prior to arrival.

    Nomination Deadline for ISBA Awards is March 1

    Every year, the Illinois State Bar Association presents awards to recognize individuals for their commitment and service to the profession, their communities, and the association. Award recipients are selected through a nomination process, and members are encouraged to nominate persons who meet the criteria for each award. Please submit the online nomination form, available following the links below, for the following awards no later than March 1.

    ISBA Offices Closed Wednesday, January 30

    The ISBA's Springfield and Chicago offices will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 30 due to inclement weather. The State and Local Tax CLE event will start at 9 a.m. as previously scheduled on Thursday, Jan. 31. All other ISBA services will resume at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31.

    File Your Nominating Petitions for ISBA Election by Thursday, January 31

    The deadline to submit nominating petitions for the ISBA election is Thursday, Jan. 31, at 4:30 p.m. at either the Illinois Bar Center, 424 S. 2nd St., Springfield, or the Chicago Regional Office at 20 S. Clark St., Suite 900, Chicago.

    Members of the ISBA will elect a third vice president, 11 seats on the Board of Governors, 45 seats on the Assembly in Cook County, and 88 seats on the Assembly outside Cook County.

    One board seat is open in each of the following Areas: Area 2 (Circuits 17, 19 and 22), Area 4 (circuits 10, 14, and 15), Area 5 (Circuits 5, 6 and 11), Area 7 (Circuits 1, 2 and 4), Under Age 37 in Cook County, and Under Age 37 outside Cook County. Additionally, five seats are open in Cook County.
