    ISBA Releases Judicial Advisory Poll Results for the 2023 Reappointment of Associate Judges

    Associate judges are subject to reappointment every four years. The reappointment is accomplished through the casting of secret ballots by circuit court judges in their circuit. Successful candidates receive votes that tally three-fifths (60%) or greater in favor of their reappointment. Voting concludes prior to the beginning of the new associate judge terms. The new term of office for each reappointed associate judge will begin on July 1, 2023, and terminate on June 30, 2024.

    All Illinois judicial candidates rated in ISBA Lawyers’ Poll and Evaluations

    All Illinois judges running for retention, as well as candidates for Illinois judicial offices who are running in the March 18 primary election, have been rated by Illinois State Bar Association evaluations committees, or in a poll of lawyers conducted by the ISBA. Results were made available today at www.isba.org/YouBeTheJudge.

    In Cook County, an ISBA Judicial Evaluations committee used the results of a questionnaire, background investigations, and in-person interviews to rate candidates for all judicial offices. Candidates for the Appellate and Supreme Court outside Cook County were also evaluated using this process.

    In counties outside Cook, the ISBA conducted an advisory poll of members in the circuit or district from which a candidate seeks election or retention. Licensed lawyers who are not members of the ISBA may request a ballot. The poll reflects the opinion of those lawyers who choose to respond, and not the opinion of the ISBA.

    Election Day is here - don’t forget your ISBA judicial ratings


    All candidates for Illinois judicial offices in the March 20 primary election have been rated by Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) evaluation committees, or in a poll conducted by ISBA. Results are available at www.isba.org/YouBeTheJudge.

    In Cook County, an ISBA Judicial Evaluations committee used the results of a questionnaire and interviews to rate candidates for all judicial offices. Candidates for the Appellate Court outside Cook County were also evaluated using this process.

    In counties outside Cook, an advisory poll is conducted by mail and sent to all ISBA members in the circuit or district from which a candidate seeks election. Licensed lawyers who are not members of ISBA may request a ballot.

    “Through these polls and evaluations, voters are provided the opportunity and responsibility of selecting qualified individuals to serve as judges to assure effective administration of our system of justice,” said John G. Locallo, of Chicago, president of the Illinois State Bar Association. “I encourage voters to consider these poll results when deciding how to vote on March 20.”

    All associate judges in Illinois are subject to re-appointment in June 2011. The associate judges are elected by the full circuit judges in each circuit.
