David J. Welch joins the Chicago office to focus on product liability and general trial practice. Welch received his J.D. magna cum laude in 2016 from Chicago-Kent College of Law and his B.S. in 2010 from Fordham University. He previously served as a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney.
John Francis Laughlin passed away Thursday January 4, 2018 at Bickford Cottage assisted living community in Portage, Michigan. John was born to Edward and Margaret (Gorman) Laughlin in Gary, Indiana on August 25, 1928. John received a BA from DePaul University where he studied English and a Law Degree from Notre Dame. He was a Corporate Attorney for Wausau Insurance for over 40 years.
William Cousins Jr., a prominent figure in Illinois legal circles and a former appellate judge, has died at age 90.
Cousins' daughter, Cheryl Cousins, told the Chicago Sun-Times her father died Saturday in Chicago. She did not give the cause.
As a Cook County judge, Cousins in 1979 declared Illinois' death penalty unconstitutional, deeming it "cruel and unusual" and "freakishly imposed." That was 32 years before the state abolished it.
Charles H. Turner, who began a distinguished legal career in Chicago under United States Attorney Edward V. Hanrahan, died January 8th at Evergreen Hospice Care Center in Kirkland, Washington. He was six days short of his eighty-second birthday. In more than a quarter-century with the Department of Justice, Turner was the lead prosecutor in several highly-publicized criminal cases. Among these was the prosecution of the American Indian Movement figures Leonard Peltier, Dennis Banks, and Kenneth Loud Hawk in the aftermath of AIM's occupation of the Wounded Knee site in South Dakota.
Theodore "Ted" J. Ansani, 77, of Park Ridge, born August 7, 1940 in Medicina, Italy, passed away December 28, 2017. Beloved husband of Betty nee Zelek; Loving father of David (Elizabeth), Maria (Michael) Lewis, Theodore (Caroline), and Marc (Elsa); Cherished grandfather of Gabrielle, Katherine, Paul, Christine, Theodore, Isabella and Samuel Ansani, Joseph, Andrew, William and Mary Grace Lewis; Dear brother, Daniel (Emma); Fond uncle of Michael (Emily), Carolyn (Chris) Strahammer and Jennifer (Chris) Kottra.
