The Illinois Supreme Court announced the filing of lawyer disciplinary orders on November 23, 2022. Sanctions were imposed because the lawyers engaged in professional misconduct by violating state ethics law.
What: The swearing-in of First Appellate Court Justice Joy V. Cunningham as a new Illinois Supreme Justice.

The Illinois Supreme Court Pretrial Implementation Task Force (Task Force) will host its final in-person regional education seminar in Champaign on December 14th at the I Hotel & Conference Center to overview pretrial justice and the implementation of the Pretrial Fairness Act (PFA), which is scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2023.
The PFA, legislation passed as part of Public Act 101-652, abolishes the use of cash bail in pretrial release decisions as of Jan. 1 and establishes new processes for pretrial release and detention decisions.
The Illinois Supreme Court Pretrial Implementation Task Force (Task Force) is hosting regional education seminars across Illinois to overview pretrial justice and the implementation of the Pretrial Fairness Act (PFA), which is scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2023.

The Illinois Supreme Court Pretrial Implementation Task Force (Task Force) will host a town hall meeting on November 17 at noon via Zoom. The topic of this town hall meeting will be Modification, Violations and Revocation of Pretrial Release.
The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice is pleased to announce that it has approved a form suite for public comment. The Eviction Answer, Defenses, and Counterclaims form suite is available for comment for 45 days until December 30, 2022.
The bar admission ceremony for the 1,342 new attorneys who passed the July 2022 Bar Exam will be held online on Thursday, November 17, at 1:30 p.m. Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis will preside over the ceremony and administer the oath to the new admittees. Justice Anne M. Burke will make the motion to admit the class and Justice Robert L. Carter will second the motion.
The Second District of the Illinois Appellate Court’s 2021 ruling in Bank of NY Mellon v. Dubrovay represents a departure from First District and Illinois Supreme Court precedent by enabling mortgage lenders to accelerate and decelerate a homeowner’s mortgage obligation at will by taking an endless number of voluntary dismissals, coming back orders of magnitude stronger, and refiling an endless number of lawsuits.
