The Unity Award Dinner & 14th Swearing-In of Bar Presidents Ceremony was held on December 1, 2016 at the Chicago Hilton. The event was presented by the Diversity Scholarship Foundation, NFP and The John Marshall Law School. Secretary of State, Jesse White was honored with the Unity Award Recipient.
The largest group, 1,121, was admitted in the First Judicial District during two ceremonies at Arie Crown Theater in Chicago. Justice Anne M. Burke presided over the 9:45 a.m. ceremony and Justice Mary Jane Theis presided over the 12:45 p.m. ceremony. ISBA President Vincent F. Cornelius addressed the class.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier presided over the Fifth Judicial District ceremony at the Southern Illinois University School of Law Lesar Auditorium in Carbondale. The ISBA was represented by 3rd Vice President David B. Sosin.
Appellate Court Justice Michael J. Burke presided over the Second Judicial District ceremony at the Hemmens Memorial Building in Elgin. ISBA President-elect Hon. Russell W. Hartigan addressed the class.
Supreme Court Justice Rita B. Garman presided over the Fourth Judicial District ceremony in the Michael J. Howlett Building Auditorium in Springfield. The ISBA was represented by 2nd Vice President James F. McCluskey.
Supreme Court Justice Thomas L. Kilbride presided over the Third Judicial District ceremony at the I-Wireless Center in Moline.
The Honorable Lloyd A. Karmeier was installed as Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court on October 31, 2016 at the Supreme Court Building in Springfield.
