The ISBA Young Lawyers Division hosted its Section meeting on Friday, June 17, during the Annual Meeting at the Westin O'Hare in Rosemont. George L. Schoenbeck, III, of Sosin & Arnold in Orland Park, was installed as new YLD Chair.
President Umberto S. Davi and his wife Jan took an ISBA group on a tour of Sicily from April 22-30.
The ISBA Environmental Law Section hosted its 15th Annual Conference from May 5-6 at the Chicago Office. William J. Anaya, of Greensfelder Hemker & Gale P.C., Chicago and Patricia F. Sharkey, of Environmental Law Counsel P.C., Chicago served as program coordinators. ISBA Mutual hosted a networking reception was held following the first day or programming.
Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans administered the oath of office to 13 newly elected associate judges of the Circuit Court of Cook County at an induction ceremony on May 9 at the Thompson Center Assembly Hall. Speakers included Chief Judge Evans, U. S. District Court Chief Judge Ruben Castillo, and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
Justice Anne M. Burke presided over the 9 a.m. ceremony at the James R. Thompson Center Assembly Hall in Chicago. Guests of the morning ceremony included Randy K. Johnson, of the Illinois Board of Admissions; Umberto Davi, president of the Illinois State Bar Association; and Chung-Han Lee, president of the Asian American Bar Association. Justice Charles E. Freeman and Appellate Justice Cynthia Y. Cobbs presided over the 11:30 a.m. ceremony and Justice Mary Jane Theis presided over the 2:30 p.m. ceremony.
Supreme Court Justice Robert R. Thomas presided over the Second Judicial District ceremony at the Hemmens Memorial Building in Elgin.
Supreme Court Justice Thomas L. Kilbride presided over the Third Judicial District ceremony at the Third District Appellate Courthouse in Ottawa.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Rita B. Garman presided over the Fourth Judicial District ceremony at the Illinois Supreme Court Building in Springfield. ISBA Treasurer David Sosin also addressed the class.
Supreme Court Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier presided over the Fifth Judicial District ceremony on May 5 at Gateway Center, 1 Gateway Dr. in Collinsville.
The Illinois Bar Foundation's JusticeCorps Program received a 2016 Liberty Bell Award on April 20 during a Lake County Bar Association meeting at the Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago. The organization Liberty Bell Award was presented to JusticeCorps by the Judges of the 19th Judicial Circuit in memory of the late Judge Thomas R. Smoker. The individual Liberty Bell Award was awarded posthumously to Lorinne "Lori" Cunningham, who passed away in January.
